  BATMAN BEGINS- SEMIOTICS Batman Begins is a film that explores the origins of one of the most iconic superheroes of all time. Directed by Christopher Nolan and released in 2005, the film presents a darker, grittier version of the Batman story, and it uses a variety of symbols and signs to convey its message. One of the most prominent signs in the film is the Bat symbol. This symbol is used throughout the film to represent Batman and his mission. The symbol is first introduced in the film when Bruce Wayne discovers a bat cave beneath his family home. This discovery at first makes him very afraid, causing him to insist his parents leave the theatre during a play which followed by their death. Bruce blames himself for it.
